This week, OurCal launched its biggest update yet, coming soon after the app's recent feature on the App Store.
Previously, you could only share calendars with one group. It's been great to see families, couples, and friends using OurCal daily. But, many users wanted to make more groups for different aspects of their lives, like communities, parents, caregivers, and clubs.
This is finally possible, along with an enhanced group chat for updates and messages, and simplified navigation throughout the app.
It’s easy to say there are lots of ways to share calendars already, and that would be true. But we believe the experience could be so much simpler and most importantly, more private.
The truth is that sharing calendars is hard work and our data is not protected. For sharing calendars with those close to us - our partner, family, friends, and community - we deserve better.
OurCal takes the calendar features you know and love - multiple views, customisation, search, widgets - and combines them with modern communication tools - messaging and reminders.
All this is safeguarded with certified end-to-end encryption, giving you the ultimate peace of mind.

To start sharing calendars with anyone, simply create your group. Your group can be a family, relationship, friendship group, club, or anything else you can imagine.
To add members, send them the group's invite link. If they have OurCal already, the link will open the app and they can join the group. If they don't, the link will take them to the App Store to download OurCal.
Now that members are invited, let's add events to the calendar. Simply type to automatically add details, or click on any field to insert details manually.
It's also possible to import existing events from any calendar, making it easy to switch to using OurCal in seconds.
OurCal keeps you up-to-date effortlessly. Your group has a group chat where you’ll see all updates and changes. It’s easy to respond, you can even reply in the event’s specific thread.
When we find something good, we often want more. That’s why we’re delighted it’s now possible to plan in OurCal with multiple groups.
To create another group, simply open the Groups tab and tap “New Group”. You’ll follow the same process as before, it’s as simple as that.
To make OurCal even more useful for your group, you can create additional custom calendars. This could be for one-off occasions, like a holiday. Or, for specific events, like chores or meals.
You always have control of your calendar. It’s easy to decide what you see with the Filter feature, simply toggle off calendars you don’t want to see.
There’s no need for continuous swiping to hunt down an event. Just search by entering its title, or another detail such as its location or date.
For many of us, OurCal has quickly become our main calendar. However, there are often other calendars services that we monitor, for example for work. You can connect these external calendars to OurCal so your events are visible to you in the app - they are not visible to others.
From day one, our mission has been to provide our community of users with the tools to share calendars privately, protected with end-to-end encryption (E2EE).
This is a robust security feature that keeps the intimate data in your calendar completely private and secure, unfortunately rarely utilised amongst existing calendar providers.
This is because they run on old calendar standards. However, we’ve built our own. This enables us to put your privacy above all else. There aren’t, and never will be, ads or tracking in the app. This comes out the box, for free.
OurCal launched towards the end of 2023, and since then we’ve seen immense encouragement from our community. Thank you to all those who choose to share calendars privately in OurCal. There are several ways you can contribute to our roadmap and give us feedback.
