Shared Calendar App Onin Launches on Android

2 min read

Today is a big day at Onin HQ! The team has been working hard to bring Onin - the productivity app that connects calendar & chat - to Android as soon as possible. This is one of the highest-voted requests on our roadmap, and we managed to make it happen at lightning speed.

Onin is officially available everywhere. Get the app now.

This release brings some major updates. Read the latest below.

What's new

Edit and share any event using Onin 🪄

Previously, events from external calendars (e.g Google or Apple) could be viewed, but not edited or shared using Onin. This meant that events from your existing calendars couldn't fully utilize Onin's productivity features, such as sharable event links and end-to-end encrypted event chat.

But don't worry, with the highest number of votes on our roadmap, we immediately got to work on making this possible. Now, it's available in the app. Regardless of the calendar an event belongs to, Onin's magic - invite links and chat - works on every single one of your events.

Add locations to events using Maps 📍

We’ve wanted to improve the location input for our events for a long time. Now, you can add a location from Maps, which makes it far easier for you to specify a location on an event and for friends to view it.

Picking a date and time is easier 📆

This is getting into the weeds of UX (user experience), but we care deeply about making Onin feel delightful and intuitive to use. One part of our product that we've wanted to improve for a while is the process of selecting dates and times when creating an event. Now, it's much sleeker.

Chats feel more ‘calendar-y’ 💬

Our chats are designed to serve as a repository for all the information related to an event. One feature that we recently rolled out and are loving is the ability to see the event schedule in the chat header. This provides a quick reminder of when the event is scheduled.

What's next

Tidy up event chats with archive 📁

Currently, there's no way to archive old event chats and keep your chats tab clean and tidy. As productivity and minimalism enthusiasts, this bothers us. However, very soon, you’ll be able to tidy your chats tab as you please with our new archive feature.

Set the mood with an emoji 🍍

Currently, when creating an event, Onin adds an emoji. Soon, you will be able to choose a custom emoji for your event. Since it's your event, you should set the mood.

Add recent friends to events ✨

We often make plans with the same friends. To simplify this process, we will be highlighting participants that you recently added to events, allowing you to quickly add them to new ones.

Thank you for supporting Onin so far. You can download the app now here.

Don’t forget, our roadmap is public, so you can see what we’re working on next, make suggestions, and vote for ideas here.

For detailed feedback, please email [email protected] - we’re all ears!
