Is OurCal’s end-to-end encryption certified?

Yes. OurCal partnered with Seald, whose technology provides our end-to-end encryption. Seald’s technology is certified by ANSSI, France’s national cybersecurity agency — you can read more on Seald’s ANSSI certification page.

The technology has also been independently audited by third-party security experts, including advanced penetration testing, and complies with regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, and PCI DSS.

What end-to-end encryption means

Most apps encrypt your data in transit (on its way to their servers) and at rest (while stored there). That sounds safe — but the provider holds the keys, so it can still read everything. So can anyone who breaks in.

End-to-end encryption is different. Your data is locked on your device before it ever leaves, and only you and your group hold the keys. No one else can read it. Not even OurCal.

What’s protected

Everything you and your group share in OurCal is end-to-end encrypted:

  • Your profile — your name and photo
  • Your groups — group names, emojis, and details
  • Your calendars — every calendar you create
  • Your events — titles, locations, and notes
  • Your messages — every chat, thread, photo, and file
