As we head into the holiday season and 2023 draws to a close, we’re feeling reflective. It’s been a fantastic year at OurCal and we wouldn’t have been able to achieve so many exciting milestones without you, our community. Here's our highlights.
2023 was a year where consumers have prioritised their online privacy more than ever before, with 75% of adults feeling that tech companies have too much control over their data. That’s a stomach-sinking statistic: the public has lost trust in big tech.
Unfortunately, these feelings aren’t surprising. With 72.6% of iOS apps tracking private user data, and an average of 4.8 data breaches per day affecting home addresses, bank account numbers, and medical histories, consumers are taking action to protect themselves.
It’s been really rewarding to finally bring OurCal to those seeking a privacy-first solution for sharing a calendar with their loved ones, from couples to families, and social groups.
Your calendar in OurCal is armoured with certified end-to-end encryption, protecting the data in your calendar from unauthorised third-party access. This keeps all the data in your calendar - locations, appointments, and timings - and details of your home and family - such as when your home is empty, and where your family are - completely secure. It works by default and can never be turned off.
This year, we not only launched the app, but also introduced several new features. Here are our team’s picks of their favourite features we've released this year:
Our natural language event creation is something I'm particularly proud of. It makes creating an event far quicker and less fiddly - you simply type the event details and OurCal inputs everything into the form for you. Combine this with another feature we recently launched, import events, and it makes getting all your events - old and new - into OurCal, effortless.

I love the integrated chat feature. When my girlfriend adds or updates an event, I can easily respond, and it makes us feel more connected. We both travel a lot and have busy schedules, so being able to organise our plans in a calendar with built-in chat makes staying connected so much easier.
