Previously, we notified you every time we released a new version of the app. Now we only notify you about major updates.
Now, when you change time zone, we’ll remind you of the current local time, your new time zone, and your previous time zone.
Event times were displaying in the 12 hour format, even when 24 hour format was set. This has been fixed.
There was an error making the calendar icon in navigation appear incorrectly. This has been fixed.

Plus group subscriptions are now just $2.99/month or $17.99/year for both new and existing subscribers.
Because private groups in OurCal aren’t shareable with others, and Plus is built for shared experiences, all private groups now come with free Plus access.
We’ve rebuilt the Calendar and Schedules tabs to improve performance and usability. The filter bars have been replaced with dedicated filter modals, making it easier to select which calendars and member schedules to display.
In the Schedules tab, events now appear separately for each selected member, distinguished by avatars to improve clarity.
The Schedules tab now offers a full-month view alongside the agenda view, letting you see all selected members’ schedules for the entire month in one place.
You can now assign custom colours to individual member schedules within the Schedules tab. Tap the ℹ️ Info button next to a member’s name to personalise their schedule colour across the app.
OurCal now supports displaying events with long titles across multiple lines. When creating or editing events, the title input fields also allow multi-line editing.
We’ve significantly improved OurCal group join links. Now, the group’s name and emoji are securely displayed on the join page, providing a clearer and more trustworthy experience for new joiners. This enhancement replaces the previous, generic page, helping these new users feel confident about the group they are joining.
We’ve simplified how you join groups in OurCal. With this update, new or existing users can now simply tap on an ourcal.link that they’ve been sent to auto-join the respective group. No more copying and pasting URLs!

We’ve made significant improvements to group calendars in OurCal, simplifying the experience without sacrificing functionality.
As before, groups are either shared or private (previously referred to as “Only You”). Shared groups now come with a default calendar named “Shared Calendar”, while private groups—created for events you never want to share—begin with a “Private Calendar”. This change makes sharing controls more intuitive and easier to manage from the start.
Additionally, these default calendars are no longer tied to the group’s name or emoji, allowing you to rename and customise them as you wish. And if you prefer, you can now delete the default calendar as long as the group has at least one other calendar.

You can now require Face ID, Touch ID, or biometrics to unlock the details of selected events on all your devices.
To lock an event, tap the new ⋯ More menu in the top right corner of the event screen and select 🔒 Lock. Once locked, the event’s details will be hidden throughout the app, including notifications and widgets.
So you don’t miss the event, its schedule and member list will still be visible.
To unlock, tap View Event, and you will be prompted to authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or biometrics.
The event will automatically lock again as soon as you leave the app.
This setting does not affect other members of the group. Additionally, all events remain protected with end-to-end encryption, regardless of this feature.
Our Up Next Home Screen widgets have been enhanced to show more of your upcoming events, even in the existing small and medium sizes. We’ve also added a new large variant for an expanded view, tappable events that link directly to the app, and a handy New Event action button for quick scheduling.
And of course, they look stunning in dark mode too.
This is our iOS 18 special! 🎁 As a result the below features are iPhone only.
OurCal's app icon now supports light, dark, and tinted modes available in iOS 18.
OurCal now works with Shortcuts. We’ve added two new shortcuts:
You can run both of these via Siri or from a shortcut. Both are incredibly useful depending on your workflow.
OurCal now integrates with Spotlight Search. This lets you search for OurCal events without having to open the app.
Simply drag down on your Home Screen to access Spotlight Search on your iPhone. You can disable these for OurCal under “Siri & Search” in iPhone Settings.
OurCal events now form part of your Apple Intelligence personal context. This will enable brand new experiences with Siri in the future, giving it an understanding of your OurCal schedule to be more helpful than ever.
You can disable this for OurCal under “Siri & Search” in iPhone Settings.
You can now add a New Event control to your iPhone’s Control Centre. This makes it much faster to add an event to OurCal anywhere from your iPhone.

You can now add non-user profiles to your OurCal groups to schedule events for members who don’t have the OurCal app like pets & kids.
These non-user profiles show up in the schedules tab just like any other member, allowing you to view and manage their schedules with ease.
If you’re using OurCal for work, you can use this new feature to represent clients who you don’t want to give group access.
Event notifications on iOS are now more informative. They include the event’s avatar, making it easier to see which event is starting. You can also see the names of the people involved in the event directly in the notification, so there’s no need to open the app to find out.
When you create an event using the quick entry option, OurCal now suggests a relevant emoji based on the event details you enter. This process happens entirely on your device to protect your privacy. If you prefer a different emoji, you can change it with a single tap.
We’ve also made the quick entry form faster, so it keeps up smoothly, even if you type quickly.
This update also includes several smaller improvements, such as fixing issues with setting group emojis when creating a group, correcting the colours for external calendars, and making various other enhancements to improve your experience.
The external calendars feature has been given a dedicated menu in the Settings tab with the new ability to hide select external calendars throughout the app, widgets, and event alerts.
External Calendars are now listed under the Only You group too, more clearly highlighting that external calendars are never shared with anyone.
Plus users can now access all of their past events in OurCal. Previously, only events from the last three months were visible in the calendar tab or search results.

You can now delete messages in groups and event threads by long pressing on them and tapping Delete Message.
Thank you to everyone who upvoted this feature on our public roadmap.
Groups can now be upgraded to Plus, giving all members full Plus benefits within that group.
This allows couples, families, and friends to use Plus in their group with a single subscription.
The result is Plus is now more affordable for everyone, especially for larger groups.
We no longer sell new individual Plus subscriptions but existing subscribers can continue to use all of their Plus benefits in all of their groups.
We resolved a bug that was preventing free users from adding or editing events on custom calendars.
Plus users with external calendars will now correctly see these events in OurCal's widgets if configured to show.
When creating a new event the emoji will now correctly default to the selected calendar's emoji.

Members who joined OurCal before the introduction of Plus now have access to our monthly subscription, making Plus even more accessible.
This release fixes a small number of snags related to our last release, Schedules.
You can now schedule events for multiple members, rather than just one or all members.
Scheduled events appear on that member’s schedule in the new Schedules tab.
You can configure your iOS OurCal Up Next widget to only display select calendars or a schedule. Read our step-by-step guide to learn how.
Configurable widgets will be coming to Android soon.
Fixes in the email verification flow when sending a second code, ourcal.link joining when already a member of that group, some input placeholders overflowing onto two lines, and the ability to delete repeat events without Plus.

It’s vitally important that you get set up on OurCal correctly to make the most of all our features.
To help everyone do so, we’re introducing reminders that will help you complete key setup actions so that you’re set up to use OurCal confidently in your everyday life.
For example, we will encourage you to complete tasks like scheduling events and adding a login method to ensure you never lose access to your account when changing devices.
To turn these off just open Settings, tap “Notifications”, and toggle off “Setup Reminders”.
When deleting an event in the app, we confirm deletion with a notification. This notification deep links to the group, where you can discuss plans if needed.

The search engine has been completely rewritten to make finding the emoji you're after far faster. The picker now opens at a new "Frequently Used" tab letting you quickly select frequently used emojis. And finally, it also always opens with the keyboard showing so you can quickly start searching straight away.
Emoji picking has never been so fast.
A huge part of what makes OurCal different is how easy it is to invite friends, family, and colleagues to your groups with just a link.
We've made this even faster for new referred users by displaying a dynamic "Join Group" tutorial when they first open the app.
Previously, you had to open shared files in OurCal in a third party app to view them. Now, OurCal provides full file viewing in-app.
Previously, if you moved across time zones, in some cases your Event Alerts could display in the the old time zone times. OurCal now will correctly adjust your event alerts to match your new time zone.
Today we’re very excited to introduce Plus, our new premium plan.
OurCal is a start-up, meaning that we are supported by funds raised from investors. Now is a responsible time for us to start generating revenue to enable us to keep innovating for many years to come. To not incorporate a premium paid offering would leave us vulnerable, in the future, to run out of funds. Plus members will keep us innovating whilst protecting every member's data forever.

Today we're thrilled to announce that you can now update or delete one repeat of a repeating event.
This highly requested feature was months in the making and we really appreciate all of you who requested it or upvoted it on our public roadmap.
We've also made navigating between repeats more accessible from the event info screen.
Previously, editing or importing all day events that were created in a different timezone to where you are now caused them to appear incorrectly. This has now been fixed.
To make the Member Calendars feature more accessible we have improved how member calendars are visually explained when setting up a group. Now, when turned on, member calendars appear nested in the group. This is also apparent on the Group Info screen.
You can now tap any location text in an event thread to directly open it in Maps.
Now, when opening an image in OurCal, tap the share icon in the top left to open the share screen. This will enable you to easily share the image outside the app, or download it.
This release contains necessary improvements ahead of an upcoming update that will better streamline and centralise messaging in OurCal around your groups.
OurCal is now looking and feeling sleeker after a number of fixes and improvements following our previous release.
You can now create multiple groups to share separate calendars with different people in OurCal, instead of the one group limit.
This lets you share private calendars with multiple groups, from family to friends and even communities.
You can also make groups to share a calendar for one-off events like holidays, weddings, or projects.
Creating a new group is easy:
Invited members who already have OurCal will be able to join this group instantly. Those yet to download OurCal will be redirected to the app store and then guided swiftly to join.
Your existing OurCal group will remain unchanged for now, but new groups will showcase advanced features due to updated technology.
In the future, we plan to upgrade your original OurCal group to incorporate these new features for a more streamlined experience.
Previously, each custom calendar had a chat. This would get very busy with multiple groups.
Now, we've streamlined all group updates into one group chat where you can reply either there or in an event’s own thread.
For improved communication, we've re-named the Chats tab, to the Groups tap. Also, the UI has been upgraded here to show a preview of the last message or update.
In this update, we've made the navigation simpler. Before, it was hard to find Settings. Now, Settings has its own tab, and every tab has a label.

The process of importing events from an existing calendar has been optimised. Previously, recurring events were imported as individual instances. We've rectified this, and they will now correctly import as recurring events in OurCal.
We've squashed a stubborn bug that was hindering certain events from being displayed in OurCal widgets and the keyboard extension. Now, all events should appear seamlessly.
We've made a slight tweak to our system. Now, when you delete a calendar or event, you're unable to tap on the update message, because it doesn't lead anywhere. This helps avoid any confusion.
Event Threads have been upgraded to help you stay on top of your messages. Status indicators show when your message is dispatched and when it's been viewed by others in your group.
It's all in the detail, and today, you're getting lots of small but mighty fixes!
OurCal notifications now stay put in your notification centre until you decide to dismiss them, instead of clearing when you open the app. No more disappearing notifications!
If you're using an older version of OurCal, we'll let you know with a handy badge on "Install."
We've squashed some pesky bugs and made message delivery even smoother.
iOS only: Tapping on an event tomorrow in the Up Next Widget now takes you directly to your calendar for the next day.
Event threads have been redesigned to enhance communication about an event. All event details are now displayed in a clear, organised header and everything is available on one screen. Tap info to edit the event. Sending messages remains familiar.
Introducing the “What’s New” blog. Here, we’ll share release notes every time we update OurCal, so you'll always be aware of what’s changed — from minor bug fixes to major updates.
To make sure you have the most up-to-date experience when using OurCal, we've added a section in “Settings” where you can check to see if you have the latest app version installed.
You’ll receive a notification whenever you update to a new version of OurCal. Or, if you're using an old version of the app and need to install an update, we’ll let you know.
If you prefer not to receive these alerts, no problem, you can easily disable them in “Settings” under “Notifications” — simply turn off “App Updates Available”.
This release also includes simplifications to our "Settings" screen, now with a link taking you directly to the "What's New" blog.

We are thrilled to unveil our "Quick Create" feature, a game-changer in the traditional event creation process. By simply typing an event detail like "swimming lessons next Thursday at 8pm for one hour at Tottenham Leisure" our intelligent tool instantly extracts key information such as the event name, time, duration, date, and location to create your event. This innovative approach offers a faster, more intuitive way to schedule your events.
Delighted to announce our new search feature. This powerful tool enables you to effortlessly locate events by name, date, or location in seconds, rather than continuously swiping to find an event. Discover specific event details with ease and precision, exactly when you need them.
Today we have released four new iOS home screen widgets to make it easier to stay up to date outside of the app. These include a single date view, month calendar, today's agenda view, and finally an expanded today/tomorrow agenda view. Widgets can be managed under “Integrations” in Settings, which can be accessed by tapping the OurCal logo in the top left from your calendar.
Today we have released a new iOS lock screen widget to help you stay up to date at a glance. See your next upcoming event, or if you have none remaining for the day.
We are introducing a new filter tool that allows you to streamline your calendar view. Now, you can de-select certain calendars to only display the events you want to see. It's easy to edit your filters and toggle calendars on or off, giving you more control and efficiency.
Today we’re releasing OurCal's keyboard extension for iOS and Android. This feature lets you check your secure shared calendar and add events, in any conversation from your keyboard. No matter where you’re making plans - WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram - you can schedule plans without leaving the chat. Your entire calendar is end-to-end encrypted and this remains true in the Keyboard Calendar. No matter where you use OurCal, your data will always be protected.
Today is the big day! We're thrilled to unveil the first release of OurCal, a privacy-focused shared calendar app. OurCal is perfect for couples, families, and friends who want to privately share a calendar.
