2026.9.30

Android catches up. The Calendar Messenger comes to Android.

A brand-new icon on Android

The new OurCal Android app icon: a white chat bubble with a red calendar band across its top, on a blue circle.
The new OurCal icon: a calendar fused with a chat bubble.

OurCal has always been a calendar messenger. Now the icon says so on Android too. A calendar fused with a chat bubble, because the problem with sharing calendars isn't productivity, it's communication. That's why we built OurCal.

The new drawer on Android

Two Android phones side by side. The first shows the OurCal drawer with rows for Calendar, Chat and Settings, and an Activity feed of messages from Gemma and Annie Wilson about new school shoes. The second shows the OurCal calendar for August and September 2027.
The drawer brings navigation and group activity together.

Navigation and group activity, together in one place. Switch between the calendar, group chats, and settings, and see every update across your groups in a single Activity feed.

Tap your avatar or swipe from the left edge to reveal it.

The Activity feed shows every group's events and messages together: who said what, which events changed, and what's new, all in one stream. Tap to open any event or jump straight into a conversation.

New to OurCal? A setup checklist at the top of the drawer guides you through turning on notifications, sharing your first event, and getting your group started.

Events now always open inside the calendar, so you can see exactly how they sit alongside everything else.

Faster chat on Android

Conversations now open instantly, even before you're connected. No loading spinners, no waiting. Just your messages, right there.

Group chat is cleaner too: event creation messages and replies now live in the event's own thread, and unread badges only count what matters.

Invite by QR code on Android

Share an invite as a QR code that someone nearby can scan. And tapping an invite link while signed in now joins straight away, no extra tap needed.

Fixes & Improvements on Android

  • Broken invite links now show "Invalid Link" instead of nothing
  • Welcome screen captions are bigger and bolder, and the picture carousel is full width
  • Fixed the oldest messages dropping off as new ones arrive
  • Fixed a thread with many replies losing its event card
  • Fixed a failed load of older messages retrying over and over
  • Location and Repeat sheets now stop just below the status bar, like the other sheets

Fixes & Improvements on Android and iOS

  • Clearer invite failure messages, with the same words on Android and iOS
  • Welcome checks the clipboard for an invite link only once, on first launch
