πŸ†• Event notes & checklists

Two iPhones side by side. Left: the Grocery Shop event detail showing a checklist with "Milk (2L whole)" ticked off, organised by category, with the chat below showing "Gemma marked task as done: Sourdough". Right: the notes viewer showing the full checklist across Dairy & chilled, Bakery, and Baby & toddler categories including "Birthday candles for Ella πŸŽ‚".
Weekly shopping list β€” add items, tick them off, and everyone sees the update in chat.

Add rich notes and checklists to any event, with bold, italic, bullets, links, and more in a full-screen editor. Tick off checklist items right from the event detail screen without opening the editor, and your group sees every change in chat. Repeating events get full support too, with the choice to update one occurrence or all. Perfect for things like weekly shopping lists that change each week.

Two iPhones side by side. Left: the New School Shoes event detail showing "Add checklists & notes..." placeholder text below the event card, with the family chat thread underneath. Right: the empty WYSIWYG editor open and ready for input, with the floating toolbar showing checklist, bullet, bold, italic, underline, and link buttons.
Tap "Add checklists & notes..." on any event to get started.

Two of our most requested features: notes for every event and checklists, shipped together.

πŸ†• Event updates and chat for synced events

An iPhone showing a synced "Team Standup" event from Dan's Work calendar, with a full chat thread underneath β€” including an automated "created event" message, Gemma asking "Can you pick up Ella after?", Dan replying, and an automated schedule update showing the time change.
Synced events now get full chat β€” automatic updates, replies, and reactions, just like OurCal events.

Synced calendar events now get the full OurCal treatment. When a synced event is created, updated, or cancelled, your group sees it automatically in the chat, just like native OurCal events. And everyone can reply and react in the event thread. No more second-class events.

Currently available for syncs set up on iOS, with support for all calendar providers except Exchange. All versions of OurCal, including Android and Mac, can see, reply to, and benefit from these synced event threads.

πŸ†• Recurring event carousel

Swipe between occurrences β€” and land on the exact one that changed.

Swipe between occurrences of a recurring event right on the detail screen. On iOS and iPadOS, swipe left and right with a peek at the next card. On Mac, use the toolbar arrows. Tapping a chat update or push notification now lands on the exact occurrence that was changed.

Reconnect or move a synced calendar

Previously, when you reinstalled the app or got a new phone, your synced calendars wouldn't carry over to your new device and would remain stuck, not syncing. Now you can reconnect or move a sync to your current device in place, keeping your sync, group, and all conversations intact. OurCal also proactively flags syncs that have stopped updating, so you'll know before your group's calendar goes stale.

Fixes & Improvements

  • Push notifications now more reliably show event names and richer detail instead of fallback text
  • Changing an event's start time now preserves the duration. The end moves with it, matching Apple and Google Calendar
  • Cancelling an event on iOS now keeps the agenda sheet open so you can see the cancelled state
  • Fixed multi-day event bars sometimes disappearing from the calendar when other events expanded
  • Fixed cancelled event notifications landing on a dead end instead of the cancelled card

Land on your event after creating it

After saving a new event, OurCal now takes you straight to the event detail screen β€” with the agenda sheet underneath and the calendar scrolled to the right day. No more hunting for the event you just created.

Not every recurring event follows a pattern. Practices, lessons, shifts, appointments β€” sometimes you just need the same event on a handful of specific dates. Two new features work together to make this effortless.

1. Duplicate events to multiple dates at once

Two iPhones side by side. On the left, the event actions menu showing Edit, Move, Duplicate, and Cancel options. On the right, the "Duplicate on..." screen showing a live calendar preview with three selected dates highlighted in blue, existing events dimmed, and a confirm button showing the count.
Pick the dates, see the preview, confirm β€” no more creating the same event one by one.

A new duplication sheet lets you pick multiple dates at once, with a live preview right on your calendar. Selected dates show the new event at full opacity while existing events dim, so you can see exactly how it'll look before confirming. Duplicated events no longer have "(Copy)" appended to the title, so they look clean from the start.

2. Auto-fill suggestions from past events

An iPhone showing the New Event screen with "An" typed in the auto-fill field, displaying three matching suggestions from past events β€” Annie's Birthday, Annie's Birthday Party with location and time, and Anniversary β€” each with emoji, details, and member count.
Start typing and OurCal fills in the rest from your history β€” times, locations, members, and all.

Start typing in the new event auto-fill field and OurCal suggests matching events from your history β€” showing the emoji, title, time, duration, and location. Tap a suggestion to fill in the details instantly.

Improved subscription management

The Subscriptions screen has been redesigned with clearer sections for billing and groups, contextual help, and state-specific actions so you always know what to do next β€” whether that's upgrading, managing, or fixing a subscription. Unassigned or unmanaged subscriptions now surface clearly with direct actions to resolve them.

Groups that need attention now surface more prominently: blocked groups show a clear alert when you open the app, appear with a red indicator in widgets, and are included in your app badge count so nothing slips through the cracks. Billing managers also get clear warnings before a subscription expires β€” with a badge, a daily reminder, and a one-tap option to re-subscribe.
